Lakehead: Gateway to Waterfalls and Caverns

Lakehead is an area around Lake Shasta in northern California. The community offers tourists who stay in vacation rentals in Lakehead a wide range of outdoor activities to pursue. Chief among popular pastimes here is hiking on the many trails in the area, with some hikes appropriate for rank beginners while others are suitable to challenge experienced outdoorsmen. Because of the proximity of the lake and the rivers that feed it, boating and fishing are also highly popular, as are other water sports such as water-skiing and swimming. Local outfitters can equip tourists with all the gear and equipment they need to fish in comfort along the lakeshore or from a boat.

The natural forests surrounding the area lend themselves to bird watching and are a favorite spot for local bird-lovers. Hunting is also a popular activity in season. Several waterfalls in the area make hunting and hiking a pleasure and allow tourists to moisten a bandana to tie around their necks should they get a little warm from the exertion.

Another fun activity in the area is to tour the Shasta Dam to learn about the history of the region. These tours are offered free of charge. Eight miles away from Lakehead, visitors can explore the Lake Shasta Caverns, a system of caves that tell a story about the natural history of the area. Guided tours are available but be sure to wear sturdy shoes with good traction if you plan to enter the caverns.
