La Jolla Offers Nude Bathing at Black's Beach

Situated inside the city limits of San Diego, La Jolla is a ritzy seaside community that possesses a full seven miles of Pacific coastline in California. La Jolla has about 50,000 permanent inhabitants and is the site of important local institutions including the University of California at San Diego and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. It also hosts the national headquarters of National University, though no campus of that institution is in La Jolla.

One of the wonderful things about vacation rentals in La Jolla is the opportunity to golf at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, which each winter serves as one of the sites on the PGA tour. Another famous local attraction is Black's Beach, which offers its only access down a trail that is steep and rather lengthy. Because access to the beach is relatively difficult, it has become a de facto location for nude sunbathing. This activity is not technically legal in La Jolla, but at Black's Beach, the law against it has not been enforced for many decades.

A more refined tourist attraction is the Museum of Contemporary Art, which has made its home in La Jolla since the early 1940s. Located near the waterfront, the museum is in the home of Ellen Browning Scripps, a philanthropist of the early 1900s. The museum specializes in post-WWII American and European art. Families with children may want to visit the Children's Pool Beach when it comes time to head to the shore.
