Burbank: Home to the Television Industry

Burbank is a city located in the Los Angeles region of Southern California. Located just 12 miles to the north of the city center of Los Angeles, Burbank offers visitors access to the many amenities that make L.A. such a special place to visit. Vacationers can spend mornings or afternoons at one of the many beaches that dot the nearby coast, or take advantage of the chance to hike through the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains.

The Media Capital of the World

Burbank has long been called the "media capital of the world" because of the many entertainment giants that have located their production facilities or headquarters here. These include Walt Disney, NBC, Warner Bros., ABC, the Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. The presence of these media companies means that visitors booked into Burbank vacation homes have an opportunity that few tourist destinations can offer: the chance to tour film and television studios.

With advance planning, it is even possible to arrange tickets to go to the taping of a television show. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, for example, is taped every weekday in "beautiful downtown Burbank" and many popular situation comedies are also "taped before a live studio audience" in Burbank or nearby Hollywood. Tickets are frequently free, though they do usually need to be booked in advance.

Tourists can also learn about filming techniques including special effects at Universal Studios Hollywood, located just a few miles away. Here visitors take a guided tour and then have several options including thrill rides based on blockbuster movies and live stunt shows.
