Annual Events in Berkeley, California

Berkeley is a city located in the San Francisco Bay area of Northern California and is home to the University of California in Berkeley, which means that tourists staying in holiday homes in Berkeley can take advantage of the vibrant student atmosphere and cultural events associated with the university, considered the crowning star of the University of California system.

Since Berkeley is within easy driving distance of San Francisco, visitors to the city can easily take advantage of the many tourist amenities in this city. These range from walking across the world famous Golden Gate Bridge that spans the bay to having an authentic Mandarin or Cantonese meal in the several blocks that make up Chinatown. Also not to be missed is a bowl of freshly-prepared clam chowder on Fisherman's Wharf and taking a ride on one of the cable cars that climb up and down the steep hills, which make up much of the city landscape.

Annual Events

Berkeley is also home to a large number of annual festivals celebrating various aspects of American and San Francisco Bay culture. These include the Jewish Music Festival each March and the Berkeley Arts Festival in April and May as well as the Juggling and Unicycling Festival, which takes place during the summer months of July or August. Also in the summer is the Kite Festival. May brings the annual Himalayan Fair, but the most unusual of all, perhaps, is September's "How Berkeley Can You Be!?" festival and parade.

Berkeley, California, USA - Home of the famous Univ. of California at Berkeley campus

Posted by Mark Foy on Tuesday, July 31, 2007
Listing #: 7487   Desc. ID: 215
Berkeley is a small town about 20 minutes from downtown San Francisco (in the East Bay). The main feature of Berkeley is the University of California at Berkeley campus (Cal) which is known world-wide. The campus was the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement in 1964. Berkeley is a beautiful town with lots of interesting craftsman architecture. It has a superb mild climate and beautiful geography (where something is blooming every month of the year). From the city, there are spectacular views of San Francisco, the bay, and the hills of Berkeley. Because of it’s central location, it can be used as a based to explore San Francisco (20 minutes), Napa/Sonoma (1 hour), the Marin Redwoods (45 minutes), Santa Cruz (1.5 hours), and all of the San Francisco Bay area.
