Costa Calida / Murcia
Posted by Steve & Sandra Heninghem on Sunday, February 11, 2007
Costa Cálida (Warm Coast) is so named because of the wonderful climate, giving year-round averages of 22 deg. and so healthy that this is where the longest-living Spaniards are found.
The climate has given Murcia the name "Garden of Europe", providing a cook's dream of quality fresh, tangy fruit and vegetables, succulent sea-food, freshly caught in the Mediterranean and Mar Menor, goat's cheeses and local bread. A trip to any of the fabulous markets is an adventure.
The Murcia region is home to some of the most handsome towns in Spain, sleepy, castle-topped villages and regional parks, ideal for hiking, bird-watching and getting back to nature.
Murcia town is a truly congenial, unspoilt, deeply Spanish little city, where sitting in a flower-filled square enjoying tapas with a drink is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Be sure to visit the truly ancient port of Cartagena, host to countless civilisations over millennia, leaving their mark on the culture and architecture.
