Vail Mountain Offers Excellent Skiing Opportunities and Much Else

The second largest ski mountain in North America is located in none other than Vail, Colorado, a city in Eagle County named after the famed mountain itself. Vail Mountain begins at an elevation of 8,120 feet above sea level and rises over 3,500 feet into the sky, giving it a summit elevation of more than 11,500 feet. This long vertical rise allows the mountain to provide over 5,000 acres of skiable area.

To service the slopes, Vail Mountain ski operators provide 33 ski lifts and almost 200 marked skiing trails. Three of the mountain's faces are developed for recreational skiing: the Blue Sky Basin as well as the front side and back bowls. It is no wonder, then, that in the 2006-2007 reader poll in Ski Magazine, Vail Mountain was ranked as the top ski resort in the United States.

Tourists staying in vacation homes in Vail will want to take advantage of the excellent skiing to be had in this mountain town, but Vail is more than just a winter ski resort. Vail's summers are warm but not hot, with temperatures occasionally reaching the 80s but most often hovering in the mid to low 70s. These are ideal hiking temperatures; cool enough to keep tourists refreshed when they are out on one of the many forest trails that open up when the snow melts each spring. Mountain breezes complete the picture of a lovely forest getaway.
