    never been treated worse
    Eric - Minneapolis, MN
We had a very bad experience here. Some friends had invited us to stay at the resort with them for an overnight, after some of their party had to leave early. This was discussed with co-owner Connie Dickerson and she had approved it, but it became evident during our stay that the other co-owner, her husband Bob, was very unhappy with the arrangement, for reasons I still don't quite understand. Instead of accepting his wife's decision and welcoming us to his resort, he proceeded to make us feel as uncomfortable as possible. He became angry, to a suprising degree in my opinion, that I was unloading our vehicle while my wife checked us in, which violated his rule that all family members must check in together. We were not aware of this rule, and he didn't say anything to my wife about it at the time of check-in, nor did he find me afterward to introduce himself and explain his expectations. Later he did approach me angrily to tell me my wife and daughter were using one of the water toys too close to the shore. I apologized and said I would take care of it, and he stalked off before there was time to say anything else. That evening they held their regular weekly hayride, and I learned that he had allowed all the children except my 4 year old daughter to drive the tractor, because 'she's not a guest'. After these incidents, I approached him to try to discuss things, and he launched into a laundry list of objections, including my violating his check-in rule, and some rather shocking complaints about our friends who had been there all week, including, bizarrely, that they hadn't been referred to the resort by word of mouth, and that they 'don't mix'. I apologized for violating his rule and asked if there was anything I could do to make the situation more satisfactory to all involved, and he said 'I can't think of anything'. He made it very clear that he would not allow our friends, or us, to return, and 'fortunately we're in a position to be able to do that.' He concluded by saying 'you'll stay for another day and then we'll say goodbye', and walked away.

I am left with a very bad taste in my mouth. We came with the best intentions and cleared everything we did ahead of time. I had no reason to believe that there was any problem until well after we arrived, and Bob was very passive and immature in the way he dealt with his puzzling anger toward us. I'm left with the impression that Bob and Connie don't communicate well, or that he doesn't respect her decisions regarding the business. Bob is obviously very rule bound and is not respectful in dealing with people who don't follow his rules. I'm also quite disturbed by the implication that only people he knows or who know someone he knows are welcome. He seems to want to create a very closed environment. Based on this, I would suggest that people who aren't already acquainted with someone who has been here not go. I have never been more uncomfortable and been treated more rudely. It really doesn't bother me that we are not welcome to come back, because I can't imagine wanting to go there again. The only reason I didn't rate this as a 1 was because some of the other guests were friendly and the weather was nice. That's about all the good I can manage to say.
